Learning bag at JFK

Summer vacation has arrived in the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District.

So Holly Gibson, an Intervention Specialist at the John F. Kennedy Primary school, has crafted a basket of crafts for students to enjoy while keeping sharp over the next few months of vacation..

“We are so happy to share this special Summer Learning Bag,” Ms. Gibson reported. “This bag is part of our Summer Snack Bag Program, which supports families with both nutritious food and meaningful educational materials throughout the summer. The goal of this initiative is to help prevent the summer slide—the learning loss that many students experience over the summer months, especially among children in kindergarten through fourth grade.”

She revealed what this educational and enjoyable basket contains.

“These colorful bags are filled with books, crafts, and educational activities designed to keep students engaged and learning throughout the summer months,’ Ms. Gibson stated. “As part of our Summer Snack Bag Program, they will be delivered directly to the homes of families with fewer educational resources, helping to combat the 'summer slide' and bringing joyful learning opportunities to our learners.”

She thanked the organization and the staff who assisted in funding this summer project.

“These materials were made possible through a generous mini-grant from The Education Foundation of Bridgewater-Raritan, along with support from JFK School staff, who also volunteer their time to deliver these bags directly to your homes,” Ms. Gibson stated.

The Education Foundation of Bridgewater-Raritan is a charitable organization that includes Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District administrators and teachers, board of education members, and residents of the community. The Education Foundation provides grants, scholarships, and other district initiatives that are not covered by the school district budget.

“We believe that every child deserves access to fun, educational opportunities, no matter the time of year. We hope this bag brings joy, learning, and special memories for your family,” Ms. Gibson said.

She concluded:

“Thank you for being a part of our community. Keep reading, playing, and learning all summer long!”
