Maddie DeRosa was determined to bring her 8th Grade classmates together before they graduated in June from the Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School.
So, with the help of her two fellow students in the Middle School Student Council, Giuliana Spinello and Jaclyn Dgenio, they devised a plan.
Hold a Color Wars.
“We wanted to have something to have everyone involved,” Maddie said.
So the first Color Wars at the Middle School was launched.
The activity on Friday, May 9, featured various competitions between the five 8th Grade classrooms. The games included a tug-of-war and a dizzy bat.
The winning color—team–was 8D, who wore blue outfits.
Their reward will be a pizza or ice cream party to be enjoyed before Middle School Class of 2025 is graduated on Wednesday, June 18.
Karen D’Aloisio, who is the 8th Grade Math and Algebra Teacher at the Middle School, was skeptical at first when Maddie presented her with the idea.
“After Maddie told me, there was a lot of hesitation,’’ Ms. D’Aloisio revealed. “It was new , but afterwards, it turned out to be a really positive event.”
Maddie’s creation may be a staple at the Middle School every year.
“I hope that it continues, a lot of people liked iit,” she said.
Ms. D’Aloisio added:
“It was a great success. Look forward to next year.”
