BRMS cince class

Studying science can be fun.

So said Jennifer Johnson.

Ms. Johnson was a new addition to the staff this school year at the Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School—and she immediately made an impression.

The Middle School students who enter her classroom, C-4, are entrenched with science and are enriched with unlimited learning opportunities.

“My goals are to create an environment where students are excited to learn science, are curious about their world, and think critically,” Ms. Johnson said. “I aim to create an engaging learning environment where students actively practice science rather than just study it.”

She has revealed that it has been a smooth transition to the Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School after she had taught in the Woodbridge Township School District for 20 years.

“ It has been a big change, but I have been welcomed by an amazing team of teachers and I am enjoying this new adventure,” Ms. Johnson said.

During a recent lab, her students were engaged in a lesson using microscopes.

“The students are observing leaf samples under a microscope to see stomata and guard cells, which are structures that control the flow of gases as they enter and leave a plant cell,” Ms. Johnson explained.

Her students enjoyed this task.

“It is really fun and I really like the labs and using the microscope,” said Isabella Magsalin, a 7th Grader. “This is one of my favorite classes.”

“I like working with the microscope,” said 7th Grader Khristian Duenas.

“My hope is that every student leaves my class not only with a strong understanding of scientific concepts but also with the confidence to continue their science studies and explore new ideas,’ Ms. Johnson said.

Khristian added:

“I never liked science before, but I like it now.”
