A spirited week, launched by dress-up days and capped by a festive dance, was celebrated at Bridgewater-Raritan High School.

Homecoming Spirit Week was held from Monday, September 28, to Saturday, October 3, at Bridgewater-Raritan High School, where students and staff participated in various events thanks to the Student Council's sound organization.

Under the leadership of Michele Mammone and Sarah Cleary, the passionate and personable Advisors of the Bridgewater-Raritan High School Student Council, the lively week started on Monday, September 28, with Dress Like Adam Sandler Day. The Tuesday, September 29, theme was Soccer Mom and BBQ Dad, followed by “On Wednesdays We Wear Pink” on September 30 and “Dress Like Your Childhood Self” the following day, October 1.

To honor that Friday, October 2, class colors were the themes: Fire Freshmen wore gray, Speedway Sophomores wore red, Jersey Shore Juniors wore white, and Star Wars Seniors wore black. Homeroom teachers counted how many students participated each day, and the freshmen won spirit week.

According to Ms. Mammone and Ms. Cleary, throughout the week, students donated nonperishable food items to earn points toward their grades for the pep rally. The seniors won the food drive, and about 200 items were collected for the Raritan Food Pantry.

The seniors also took first place in the hallway decorating contest.

On that Friday, October 2, students gathered at Basilone Memorial Field for the pep rally, where senior athletes and band members were recognized. The competitions included Musical Chairs with music from the Marching Band, Balloon Bop, Pizza Box Knockout, an inflatable costume obstacle course, and Tug of War.

The seniors finished on top as the overall pep rally champion.

The excitement continued Friday night at the football game. Margarita Silvar and Nolan Chinchilla were crowned Homecoming Royalty, while Bridgewater-Raritan defeated visiting Hunterdon Central Regional High School. 35-18.

The celebration ended on Saturday, October 3, with the Homecoming Dance and its theme, “Party Like It’s 2016.” The decorations included emojis, Snapchat filters, and colorful balloons. More than 400 students attended, and the Student Council's cotton candy and popcorn were a hit. From dressing up with friends to cheering at the game,

Ms. Mammone and Ms. Cleary concluded.

“Homecoming Week gave students plenty of ways to show their school spirit.”
