A blend of experience and skilled newcomers has created a confident air above the courts at the Green Knoll Tennis Center in Bridgewater.

Evan Rosenberg, the Bridgewater-Raritan High School girls’ tennis coach, has welcomed back six starters from last year’s team, while he is thrilled with the arrival of some new players.

“Yes, we are confident. We have veteran leadership and experience and we also have some really good younger players,’ Rosenberg shared moments after his deep Bridgewater-Raritan squad defeated Bayonne High School in a scrimmage on Thursday, August 20, at the Green Knoll Tennis Center.

One of his skilled veterans is senior Neha Ashok, who played first singles in 2025.

That word confident was suggested again.

“We are confident with who we have back and some good freshmen,” said Ashok, who also spoke about the relationships between her teammates.

“I love that we have such a good bond. We are friends and we cheer each other on and we have each other’s back,” she revealed.

“That is a lot of motivation,” Ashok added.

Rosenberg, who is also a successful coach of Bridgewater-Raritan’s boys’ tennis team in the spring, believed this unit has the potential to match the 2024 team that advanced to the North Jersey Section 2 Group 4 state sectional final.

Bridgewater-Raritan fell in a tight and thrilling state sectional final match on that October 2024 afternoon to Westfield High School, 3-2.

The return of six varsity letterwinners and the emergence of two promising freshman players have produced this air of optimism on the courts located across Garretson Road from Bridgewater-Raritan High School.

Ashok and junior Skye Cabatuo, who will serve as the team captain, lead a veteran bunch in returning letterwinners, seniors Rhia Evans, Mysha Jain, Sophia Liu and Aadhya Rakesh.

Stepping in nicely have been freshmen Evelyn Ma and Audrey Zhang.

They will be challenged by a schedule that Coach Rosenberg declared “is the toughest in New Jersey.”

Perennial powers Pigry School, Ridge High School, Watchung Hills Regional High School, Hillsborough High School and Montgomery High School, who will visit Green Knoll for the season opener on Wednesday, September 2, await these Panthers this fall.

But Coach Rosenberg, who will be assisted once again by Xavier Brooks, and his unit are prepared.

“This is the deepest team that I have ever had,” Coach Rosenberg concluded.
