An assembly called "Bias, Prejudice and Stereotypes: How Do They Affect Us?" was presented by the Middlesex County Department of Corrections and Youth Services to the freshman class at Bridgewater-Raritan High School.
The featured speaker at the assembly that was held on the morning of Tuesday, December 16, was David L. D'Amico | Chief Investigator for the Middlesex County Department of Corrections and Youth Services
Lauren Amisial, a Student Assistance Counselor at Bridgewater-Raritan High School, coordinated the assembly.
She described the session.
“Prejudice and discrimination often are the root causes of conflict, which explains how strangers come to hate one another. Prejudice and discrimination affect everyone. Today we examined the definitions of prejudice and discrimination, discussed examples of these concepts, and the causes of these biases. Our perception is how we view, respond, and react to every experience. We discussed how to recognize our own biases and how to move beyond them to a more balanced ability to evaluate and understand people.”
Ms. Amisial concluded:
“We hope that this will contribute to a culture at Bridgewater-Raritan High School of kindness, respect and acceptance.”
