Italian week at BRHS

The week of October 13 is the celebration of Italian Week in the world.

"It is a special time to celebrate Italy’s rich culture, history, and beauty," said Giuseppina Bologno and Giuseppina DiMartino, World Language Teachers of Italian at Bridgewater-Raritan High School.

According to Ms. Bologno, to honor this event, members of the Italian Honor Society (IHS) decorated the bulletin board in the 700 building at the high school with colorful displays that highlight Italy’s traditions, art, and delicious food.

Ms. Bologno said that Italy’s most famous celebration is Carnevale, a lively festival with masks, parades, and parties leading up to Lent. Venice is especially known for its amazing Carnevale! To capture this spirit, IHS members share an original mask from Venice.

She continued.

"Of course, no Italian celebration would be complete without food! From pasta and pizza to rich espresso and creamy cappuccino. Students had the chance to learn about Italy’s coffee culture and taste espresso and cappuccino in our classes."

"Italy is also home to world-famous art and architecture. Our display features masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, along with images of landmarks like the Colosseum, Leaning Tower of Pisa, and Venice’s canals—symbols of Italy’s creativity and history."

"As proud members of the Italian Honor Society, we hope our decorations bring joy and inspire everyone at Bridgewater-Raritan High School to appreciate the traditions, flavors, and artistry that make Italian culture so special," Ms. Bologno and Ms. DiMartino said.

They added:

"Let’s all take a moment to celebrate Italy this week, its beauty, its people, and its lasting influence around the world."
