Glassmaking was experienced by Latin students during field trip

Latin students from Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School were taught first-hand about glassmaking.

On Wednesday, May 22, 43 Latin students in 8th Grade traveled to Glassworks Studio in Morristown.

Lindsay Rath, the Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School Latin Teacher, explained the purpose of the field trip.

“In our Latin curriculum, students learn not only the language but also about the history and culture of Ancient Rome,’ Ms. Rath said. “This year, 8th Grade students studied the advent of glassmaking in Rome and Egypt and learned about how the Romans made glass and what they used it for.

She continued with a report on the visit in Morristown.

“In order to get a hands-on experience with what they’ve learned, we decided to take a trip to a studio where the students could see how glass is made and make their own glass piece. The students got a studio tour and then made glass nameplates they could take home to display after being fired in the studio’s kiln.”

Ms Rath added:

“The students had a great day and made some beautiful creations!”
